This cuboid-shaped, fruit flavored soft taffy candy was first introduced in the UK in 1959. Originally known as "Opal Fruits", it appeared on U.S. candy shelves in 1967 as "Starburst". The original 4 flavors were, Orange, Lemon, Strawberry, and Lime (Lime was later replaced by Cherry). Their sweet, and somewhat tart, flavors provided great inspiration for a similar tasting cocktail. With both sweet and sour Strawberry spirits, we've added some vibrant Orange flavor, and a couple of other tasty ingredients, to bring you our delicious featured cocktail, the Starburst Martini. 1.5 oz. Sunkist Orange Soda
1.5 oz. Sprite
2-4 Starburst Candies
For the garnish, heat the blade of a knife, and sort of melt a groove in the corner of a Starburst. Slide it on the rim of a Martini glass. Next, with the heated blade, melt a little bit of a corner of another Starburst, and press it corner to corner with the candy that is already on the rim of your glass. They stick together rather quickly. Set the glass in the freezer while you prepare the cocktail. For the cocktail, combine the three spirits in an ice filled cocktail shaker. Cover, and shake well. Then, add the Sprite and Sunkist, and give it a good stir. Remove the glass from the freezer, and strain the cocktail into your glass. It's sweet, it's tart, it's delicious, it's our Starburst Martini. Enjoy!
